Half-way there

We are just a little over half-way through this year’s lambing schedule. Out of our 10 ewes, we have had 6 lamb healthy and strong progeny to add to our flock. One set of triplets started us off this season, followed by a single and 4 sets of twins.

The remaining ewes are bloated and have very swollen udders as this is not their first time to deliver. We have a little bet going on between the family as to which of the 4 look the most ready to pop!

As we had so many triplets last year, we were prepared to supplement with bottled milk this season to ensure the best start possible for them. Sheep only have 2 teats, so triplets can pose a problem if there is not enough milk, or the lambs begin to fight for resources. Our current set of triplets are still with mom as they are doing well with her and are all the same size, so competition is limited. If we notice that one is struggling to grow, or needing some extra energy, we are prepared to supplement.

We are looking forward to the rest of the season, and the final end to this year’s never-ending snow! Follow us for updates.
